Job Description

The Wheatsheaf, Chilton Foliat, is delighted to be expanding its team with the search of a Sous Chef to join our kitchen team. Known for our exceptional seasonal cuisine, warm hospitality, and commitment to locally sourced ingredients, we offer a premium dining experience that celebrates the best of British produce.

As Sous Chef you will work alongside our Head Chef, contributing to menu creation, leading the kitchen in their absence, and ensuring every dish meets our high standards.

Your normal hours of work are to be arranged on a rota basis. You are requested to work such hours as are necessary for the satisfactory performance of your duties and/or as necessitated by the needs of the business. This may include working shifts, weekends and bank/public holidays.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations and menu planning.
  • Maintain high culinary standards, ensuring consistency in quality and presentation.
  • Supervise and train junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive team environment.
  • Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations are adhered to.
  • Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising waste to align with our sustainable ethos.
  • Bring creativity and passion to seasonal menu development.

What we’re looking for:

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong experience as a Chef de Partie looking to step up.
  • Passion for fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards (Level 2 Food Safety certificate preferred)
