Job Description

The Wheatsheaf is a renowned high-end country pub with 8 beautifully refurbished guest rooms, nestled in the idyllic village of Chilton Foliat. Known for exceptional food, warm hospitality and a talented kitchen team, we’re a destination for food lovers and a much-loved local favourite.

As we prepare to reopen following an extensive refurbishment, we’re entering an exciting new chapter with a renewed focus on quality, creativity and guest experience. To support this relaunch, we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Commis Chef to join our kitchen brigade.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with food preparation across all sections of the kitchen
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, freshness and presentation
  • Support senior chefs during busy service periods
  • Follow food hygiene, safety and cleanliness procedures at all times
  • Help with stock rotation, labelling and kitchen organisation
  • Keep work areas clean, tidy and well-organised
  • Take pride in delivering consistent, high-quality prep and dishes
  • Contribute positively to a hardworking, supportive kitchen team

What we’re looking for:

  • Some previous kitchen experience is desirable, but passion and willingness to learn are essential
  • Strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Keen interest in fresh ingredients, cooking techniques and developing your skills
  • Ability to work well within a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Good organisation and attention to detail
  • Team-player with good communication skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and busy periods
